CRITERIA
SAY Web Awards

1 The content of your site must be interesting to more than just you.
2 HTML code must be correct and clean. No unnecessary tags.
3 If applying for the award, you must be site owner/web master and be at least 14 (COPPA)*
4 Busy sites with blinking banners and loud colors will probably be disqualified. If we get a headache looking at your page, it makes it difficult to evaluate it.
5 Java Scripts must be full functional. If we receive a "error on page" message, your site will be disqualified.
6 Java Scripts must be appropriate for your site. Unnecessary, flashy, showy scripts only make you feel cool... to your visitors, it's just annoying.
7 Your site should possess a "something special" quality. As yourself, "have I seen this before?"
8 Your site should either be in English or provide a translated version. If we could speak all languages, we would. If we later find out that the English version's content is not the same as your site submitted for devaluation, you will be disqualified.
9 Your site should not be "Under Construction". If you're not done yet, why are you applying for an award?
10 Absolutely no offensive content. This includes, but is not limited to hatred, violence, adult(porno) material, racism. If you wouldn't show this site to your mother, we don't want to see it.
11 Your site must not require the evaluator to submit any information (i.e. guestbook, etc.)
12 Your site must contain an "awards won" page. A lot of work goes into evaluating sites, and if you do not intend to display your awards, please don't waste our time.
13 If your site contains FLASH, you absolutely MUST provide a "SKIP" option and/or a HTML version. If this is not provided, you will lose ALL "Ease of Navigation" points.
14 You must use appropriate META tags. Info...
15 If your site contains music, wav, etc. files, you must give the visitor the option to turn them off. If this is not provided, you will lose ALL "Ease of Navigation" points.
16 All graphics must be original OR have credit to the artists clearly posted on your site. As always, "give credit where credit is due."
17 Grammar and spelling are vital to a good web site. Simply run "Spell Check" before submitting for your award, and have someone read over the text to make sure it makes sense.
18 Code Word to verify you have read all requirements for application: verifyme
19

Loading times must be kept to a minimum. Optimally we would prefer it take no longer than 60 seconds (1 minute) to download ANY page on a 56K modem. Note: These will be evaluated on 56k modems for this very reason.

20 Broken icons = broken hearts. If you don't notice that you're graphics, documents, objects, etc. are missing... we can't help but think you have no idea if your site is even functional.
21 All sites working in frames must have links opening in the correct frame, and external links open in a new window. We don't want to browse microsoft.com with "Mike's Homepage" at the top of our window. Also, be sure not to go too overboard with frames. Keep them to a minimal.
22 Ease of navigation is an absolute MUST. You shouldn't rely on the user's "Back" and "Forward" buttons to allow them to navigate around your site.
23 Your site should contain at least three (3) pages of real content. Links pages do not qualify as a page of real content unless it is a page of links to other sites designed/created by you.
24 Your site must contain no dead links. Not meeting this standard would result in at least 10 points being taken away from your "Ease of Navigation" score.
25 No Sites with less than three pages of real content.
26 Your site must have some sort of theme graphically. We don't want to see every graphic you have ever found on the Internet just because you like them. Pick a few you like and use them sparingly.

For requirement #s 13, 15, and 24:
If you fail to do two (2) of these, you will lose an additional 10 points off your final score, and if you fail to do ALL THREE (3) of these, your site will be disqualified. Click here to view the "Disqualifying Rules".

When, and only when , all criteria are met, the site will be graded on the following scale:

Content 20 Points
Ease of Navigation 20 Points
Graphical Layout/Design 20 Points
Originality 20 Points
Evaluator's Opinion 20 Points

The following awards will be given out according to the final score achieved:
